Monday Musings, March 29, 2021

Siblings in Christ–

Grace and peace to you this Monday morning.  Here on this Monday of Holy Week, I pray for you a week of deep reflection and contemplation.  What word of confession comes to your mind as you reflect on the events of this week?  What person are you most drawn to as you wind your way through the passion narrative?  What piece of music captures the event of this week?

I am grateful for the range of worship experiences being offered by Presbytery churches.  Thank you for the planning, creativity and work that you have given to this week of worship.

May the joy of Easter be real in your life.  May the power of the resurrection and the promise of new life shower your days.

This week’s Musings are a compilation of favorite and newly discovered passion and Easter resources.  My hope is you will find something here that speaks to you.

And the musings are going on vacation.  Monday, April 12 will be the next time this appears in your inbox.

Here’s the list for the week:

  2. Stations of the Street

  13. Holy Communion for April 4
  1.  The Stations of the Cross:  Courtesy of the Synod of the Covenant, this is an interactive journey.  To do this in one sitting will take about 45 minutes.  And you can also space it out during the week.
  1. Stations of the Street:  The artwork normally displayed at North Church is available as PowerPoint slides during this Virtual Lenten Season. Sponsored by the PWR Ministry Advocating with Homeless Persons, it includes sixteen captivating slides, each with a thought-provoking question to consider while viewing these striking modern art images created by members of the North Church fellowship.  Plans are underway to provide some music video selections recorded of tenor and North Church music director,  Dwight Fleming.  Please contact MAHP Co-Chairs Steve Ritchey or Cinda Gorman for more information and the PowerPoint download for your congregation.
  1. COVID Stations of the Cross:  Sharon Budin, pastor at Bethany Presbyterian, used this in worship recently.  This is a powerful imagining set in our present day reality.  The reflections are adapted from the work of Cruz Edgardo Torres.  The stations will be set up at Bethany on Friday from 12 – 3 if you want to go by.
  1. Out of Chaos:  Another one courtesy of Synod of the Covenant.
  1. A Case for Holy Week:  In the midst of this past year, Nadia Bolz-Weber makes a case for Holy Week.
  1. Listening at the Cross:  The charcoal drawings by Jan Richardson accompanies the music of Garrison Doles remembering the last words of Christ.
  1. Washing Feet Can Transform Society:  Never the most popular event of Holy Week, I’ve found and important nonetheless as Hannah Adams Ingram reflects.
  1. The Holy Grail:  What is it that makes the Holy Grail holy, if there really is such a thing?
  1. Manifesto:  The Mad Farmer Liberation Front:  Everybody’s favorite Wendell Berry poem recited by Bill McKibben.
  1. East Coker IV:  T.S. Eliot’s take on Good Friday.
  1. Were You There:  Dr. Ruth Rowan Draper is Director of Music at Lakewood Presbyterian.  Here she offers both words and music for this hymn traditionally used at a Service of Tenebrae.
  1. Since By Man Came Death:  Yes, the one from Messiah.
  1. Holy Communion for April 4:  I’ve shared pieces from Maren C. Tirabassi.  This is a simple communion liturgy that can be used online or in person.
